Keeping Orders, Accounts, and Shipment Records Connected

Keeping Orders, Accounts, and Shipment Records Connected
Accurate order records make support and fulfillment easier, especially when a store supports both customer accounts and guest checkout.
Use a Consistent Email Address
The order email is the primary link between checkout, transactional messages, and customer support. Use an inbox you can access and check spelling before submitting the order.
Save the Order Number
Include the order number in support messages. It is more reliable than searching by product name or approximate purchase date.
Account and Guest Orders
An account can provide order-history and saved-information features. Guest checkout can still receive order messages at the submitted email. Whether a past guest order can be linked later depends on the storefront's account-linking rules and matching records.
Protect Magic Links
Magic links are time-limited sign-in credentials. Do not forward them or post them publicly. If a link expires, request a new one from the sign-in page.
Verify Shipment Messages
Use tracking links from the order record or a known transactional email. Contact support if a message asks you to send payment or account information to an unfamiliar recipient.
