A Receiving Checklist for Research Materials

A consistent receiving process helps a laboratory identify shipping issues early and maintain a usable inventory record.

Before Opening the Product Container

  • Match the carrier label to the expected order.
  • Photograph visible exterior damage before discarding packaging.
  • Compare the packing list with the items received.
  • Record the delivery date and the person receiving the package.

Inspect the Label and Container

Confirm the product name, labeled amount, lot number, and container condition. Set aside any item that is damaged, open, illegible, or inconsistent with the order.

Preserve Traceability

Record where the material is stored and keep the order number, lot identifier, and available documentation linked in the same inventory record.

When Something Is Wrong

Do not use a damaged or questionable item. Keep the product and packaging, then contact support with the order number, description of the issue, and clear photos when relevant.
